A musculoskeletal injury is a condition where damage occurs to a muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve or joint. The injury itself is usually as a result of repetitive microtrauma over a long period of time for example; low back pain, neck pain, joint injury, repetitive strain injury, carpal tunnel syndrome etc What is Corporate Injury Prevention (CIP) CIP is a unique onsite treatment clinic designed to prevent and manage work related injuries. It's purpose is to dramatically reduce sickness and absenteeism. Using the latest researched techniques from the UK, USA and New Zealand, CIP not only focuses on prevention of work related injury, but has been designed to improve the general functioning of the body. Using these techniques the majority of people leave each treatment visit with:
-
10-30% increase in strength Most injuries have a history to them which most patients are unaware of. For example, the majority of severe back pain is due to mechanical dysfunction that has been occurring for many months. This dysfunction within the body can go unnoticed by the patient because at the initial stages, pain is minimal or even absent. However, failure to correct this underlying dysfunction will inevitably result in injury. When injury does occur, pain is often severe and debilitating. In summary; the build up to injury is often unnoticed and regularly results in severe pain and time away from work. The purpose of James Grigg Injury Clinic is to identify anatomical dysfunction before injury occurs thus preventing it from happening. More and more employers are becoming aware of the importance of employee health and well-being. As a result many take out private medical insurance policies to make sure their staff receive the quickest treatment. CIP however, is going one step further, and is designed in order to prevent injury occurring in the first place. This is where time and effort should be focused. When injury does occur, some structure within the body has become damaged. This structure, whether it be joint, ligament, tendon, muscle or tendon in origin, now has to have time to heal and means there is vulnerability for re-injury. The majority of back pain and MSI's that are so commonly found within the work place can be prevented with CIP. Here are just some of the benefits: Employer benefits of CIP

On average, 14-16 employees, each with a consultation time of 30 minutes can be seen per day, with a recommendation of 3 visits per year. Therefore 1 clinic day per week would provide 256 employees with 3 treatment visits per annum (based on a 48 week year). Each treatment session follows a five step process:
1.
Assessment of the musculoskeletal system Prevention Preventing any injury is a far better solution to treating an injury. Many office desks are now ergonomically designed to try and reduce pressure onto the lower back. However, there is far more that can be done to reduce injury and improve the general functioning of the body.
