The benefits

Sports massage will leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and relaxed. Due to the demands of daily living and the stresses we place on our bodies, many people put up with constant dull aches or niggling pains. Most of these are of muscular origin. Sports massage address’s these issues and resolves them quickly often with immediate effect.

The massage

Sports massage is quite simply massage….. just better. It works by applying deep pressure to areas of tightness within the muscle often known as knots. These knots cause pain at the site of the tightness within the muscle. However, it is also common for muscular knots to cause pain in other areas of the body that are not tight. This is called “refereed pain”. For example, tightness in the upper back and shoulder muscles can cause headache pain.

But I don’t play sport

The reason why sports massage is called “sports” massage is because it originated in sport. Athletes have exactly the same muscles as non-athletes so it is completely normal to have a sports massage if you don’t play sport. In all honesty it is probably more beneficial to non-sporting individuals to have regular sports massages. This is because non-sporting individuals often have more muscular knots and tightness than athletes. So can you have a sports massage if you don’t play sport? Absolutely!

Does it hurt

It is a common misconception that sports massage has to hurt to be beneficial. This is not the case. When applied correctly sports massage is extremely beneficial and relaxing at the same time. However, for those who wish to experience the full benefit of sports massage, deeper pressure can be applied which might be a bit sore at the time, but not painful. Each treatment is specific to each individual.

Remedial massage

Remedial massage is a much lighter approach than sports massage. Although not always as effective as sports massage, remedial massage is ideally suited at individuals who wish to just relax and de-stress from the demands of daily activities. So if you are wishing to have a more relaxing massage then contact us for a remedial massage.
